This post is unedited from the 2018 election to show Barry Wilson follows through and does what he says he is going to do.
The top concern of Windsor residents is more traffic on our already congested roads. The Town Board must take a proactive approach given our population growth projections.
I support an investment in traffic light synchronization through downtown Windsor as well as the series of lights at HW-392 and I-25, including CR-5. This is a proven way to reduce congestion if implemented correctly and maintained.
I support investments to route truck traffic away from downtown and residential areas to reduce congestion and improve safety. We need more future projects like the planned Crossroads improvement and extension as well as the planned Harmony Road expansion to 4 lanes.
Local industrial operations should pay their fair share for roads if their operations lead to road damage or cause a need for improvements (turning lanes, on-boarding lanes, etc.).
Many of our main thoroughfares are county roads and state highways. To be successful, Windsor must have excellent relationships and partnerships with Larimer County, Weld County, and the State of Colorado to secure funding for road improvement and expansion projects to keep up with population growth. I also support Windsor and other communities coming together to improve I-25.
Windsor hasn’t reached the critical mass to justify our own public transportation system. On February 5th, I attended a ‘Poudre Express’ presentation. Poudre Express is a potential hourly bus service connecting UNC in Greeley with CSU in Fort Collins. The proposed route has multiple stops in Windsor. This would link Windsor into Bustang and the rest of Colorado’s public transportation systems. It’s excellent opportunity as Windsor would share the cost with Greeley and Fort Collins. I fully support moving forward with this project. It’s economical and reduces traffic congestion and pollution. Windsor seniors have been asking for this type of service for a long time.
My family and I utilize Transfort, the transit service for the City of Fort Collins. The MAX is a convenient way to reach Rams football games and other events. I have also used Bustang, the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) inter-regional express bus service, and the RTD Light Rail System to reach a biweekly business meeting in Centennial (South Denver).
Going to a Broncos game or another downtown event? Forget about traffic, gas, tolls, and parking! Bustang will take a passenger from Fort Collins or Loveland to a Denver’s Union Station for $10.
I’m a firm believer that growth must pay for itself whenever possible. Growth should benefit all residents, not just developers and builders. Growth can and should make our lives better, not worse. Therefore, we should prepare for growth proactively wherever possible versus making road improvements and expansions 3 or 5 years after they are needed.
